The botanical name of Fenugreek herb is Fenum Graecum. It is a herb which is found in Southern Europe, Western Asia, and Mediterranean Region. Along with these areas, it also grows in various other parts of the world including Northern Africa, United States, and India.
During ancient times, it was widely used for medicinal purposes for the treatment of arthritis, bronchitis, wounds and digestive problems. Traditional herbalists of China used it for kidney problems and male reproductive tract issues.
The smell and taste of Fenugreek is similar to that of Maple syrup. In India, it is known as “Methi”. It was and remains a spice and food which is commonly eaten in many parts of the world.
